These free reading apps for kids make it a joy to get your children engaged in reading. I see how their captivating illustrations, graphics, and games draw beginning readers into a story. Children interact with letters, words, and illustrations in ways that aren’t possible with print on paper. Some of the apps include read-along stories, which are a fantastic tool to help kids develop fluency. As you can see, our educational system in the US is now sitting on the cusp of major changes that will seriously effect learning environments, cause job loss and force parents into situations that will require them to spend more money and/or time to see to it that their children become educated.
So let’s start by facing a truth that we are all aware of on some level, but usually try no to face – our educational system is archaic. It emerged in the time of the Industrial Revolution and it is designed to cater to that time of history and not current social reality. Education is still trying to grind children down to the size that would fit the needs of the industrial revolution. We can see this in the way we assign importance to different subjects. The most important subject in school is still Maths, followed by languages, sciences, humanities with arts and music at the very bottom. This is the value that was assigned because of the needs of the Industrial Revolution and nobody had the guts to revise the curriculum in such a way that would be more adequate to the modern society which allows creative types equally lucrative career opportunities as engineers. Designers, musicians, artists, dancers and actors can actually do pretty well in the contemporary world.
Louise, Thanks for your great lenses, I have grandchildren (ages 5 and 6 months and 3 years) and I will be happy to share your lenses with their parents and try some of the things when I borrow the g-kids. I ordered some books from Amazon from your books for 3 years olds lens. My lenses are few and two are as yet unpublished, but I am finding that people like you have made some useful lenses. My published lens is about the Northern California coast (which is like the coast you’d see in the British isles… although I have yet to confirm that).I hope to have my Big birds lens up soon, your 5 year old might like it.
That’s your choice and that’s fine with me but I don’t believe that as a general rule. There are things we talk about and he is a great conversationalist. A man does not have tp attend college to be intelligent. Academic intelligence is just a minute part of what makes us up as humans.
I enjoyed the information. I scored honestly in the 11-20 range. Zero’s on most. I am actually quite good at being able to go out and make money, but have not gotten over that last hurdle that will help me enjoy a comfortable retirement. My worst score was in re-inventing the wheel. I think I scored darn near a 10 on this one. I think I would have rather scored 4’s across the board, than mostly 0’s with a 10. I have known for a while that I need to stop doing that as well. Since reading this, I have already made a step to drop my 10 to a 5.
The economy began to get bad around my city with the decline in the tech sector. I was scrambling to find a job, and getting nowhere. When I finally found a job, I was ultimately rejected because they couldn’t verify my high school diploma – apparently this was a nonnegotiable requirement. I continued my search, but ultimately failed.
