Great post! I am familiar with most of the DVDs you listed. I definitely like Sesame Street and Signing Time the best out of the DVDs in your list. My kids seem to enjoy them. Have you ever heard of MonkiSee though? It might be a little young for your older child, but the 2 year old might enjoy it. My baby loves it better than most videos I turn on. It is 30 minutes per DVD and teaches animals, colors, abc, etc… I really recommend them. 🙂 Just a tip in case you are ever on the look out for other education DVDs. Sometimes fun and educational DVDs can be hard to find. 🙂 Best to you!

From students and teachers to administrators and employers, at ETS we provide a range of solutions designed to meet the many different needs — and goals — of partners like you. I think that is a major part of it. But we also have to allow for individual personalities. A parent can do everything right and for whatever reason have a child that will not excel and will not value education. I may be wrong but I seem to remember you complaining about poor people having large families to benefit from government hand outs.

Real estate is said to be one of the best investments that an individual can make, but if this is true, why do so many people fail at it? The truth is that an adequate real estate education is needed in order to help you out along the way because the real estate industry can truly turn on you in a real hurry if you are not prepared. Real estate investments are very likely to yield a generous return if the proper steps are taken, but too many people simply do not have the skills to make these deals happen. These are the people who did not take the time to get a real estate investing education and, therefore, will be more likely to fail when things do not go according to plan. These free reading apps for kids make it a joy to get your children engaged in reading. I see how their captivating illustrations, graphics, and games draw beginning readers into a story. Children interact with letters, words, and illustrations in ways that aren’t possible with print on paper. Some of the apps include read-along stories, which are a fantastic tool to help kids develop fluency. As recently as 20 year ago women educators were viewed as glorified baby sitters, with most high school teachers and almost all college professors being male. More recently, there has been a change of view of women teachers and an increase in the number female teachers in post elementary levels and female professors in bachelor and even graduate education. The number of female educators is still dependent on field with far more female teachers found in the humanities, social sciences and helping professional programs. Yet the overall number of female educators has increased steadily in the past decade.
It always seems funny (and sad as well) that so many people touting their wonderful education and money depend totally on the uneducated, illiterate and stupid blue collar worker for their daily needs. Without the men and … Read more
Parents appreciate the importance of early childhood education but wonder: What are the characteristics of a high-quality preschool? As a former early childhood educator and mother of two, I’ve seen which practices benefit young children, which ones don’t, and which ones are actually harmful to them (e.g. long Circle Times, teacher-directed craft projects, lengthy calendar activities, paper-pencil tasks in workbooks). One of my sons attended a non-profit parent-cooperative that strictly adhered to the teachings of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). My other son attended a privately owned preschool that came highly recommended but followed no road map other than the owner’s whim. Based on these divergent experiences, I learned how important it is that a preschool has a strong identity, a sound philosophy, and a firm understanding of developmentally appropriate practices. This bit I don’t. Kids can get structure and socialization from other sources besides a traditional brick-and-mortar school. Successful home-school parents are usually highly organized and structured people to begin with, so they can impart the structure thing on their kids. Also, there are many home-school cooperatives where kids get together and socialize. Plus there’s municipal sports leagues, church youth groups, 4-H, stuff like … Read more
Fierce advocates for the high academic achievement of all students — particularly those of color or living in poverty. Not agreeing but stating fact. Birth control and family planning is a foreign concept to the poor person. Planning of any kind is foreign to the psychology and prospectus of the poor person who believes in instant gratification and consequences be damned. That attitude explains the main reasons they are poor. They live for the now and refuse to consider the future. That is the culture of poverty syndrome. Wealthier classes believe in the future and judiciously plan for it. They practice delayed gratification, especially if they know that such delays would make their future better.
Politicization of census operations, leading to inflation of figures and falsification of information. Earlier physical maturation has more to do with good nutrition than anything else. But I am not sure what self defense has to do with telling kids how babies are made.

While he eats, I look through his books and see what homework he has. I often have to phone a friend to ask, because he forgets so many things. I never tell him off for this because he never does not do it on purpose. It’s because he’s dyslexic. Informative and well done! I learned several things I did not know before and your hub refreshed my memory on a few others. Great Job!
