Psychology is the study of people’s behavior, performance, and mental operations. It also refers to the application of the knowledge, which can be used to understand events, treat mental health issues, and improve education, employment, and relationships. The subject lies at the intersection of applied, educational, and theoretical science. Each of us is different and each of us needs a different potion of skills and knowledge in order to develop to our full potential. If somebody has a particular talent, they should be allowed to develop it. While we are in school, our uniqueness is simply collapsing under the burden of an unnecessarily crammed school curriculum that wants to turn us into walking encyclopedias with little original taught. A musician should be allowed to be a musician, a mathematician should be allowed to be a mathematician and a runner should be allowed run.
This is one of the most contended and criticized portions of the IDEA law. there is a great deal of controversy over placing significantly disabled children in a mainstream classroom. The determination of a child’s least restrictive environment is fraught with emotions and is a difficult decision in some circumstances.

With 189 member countries, staff from more 170 countries, and offices in over 130 locations, the World Bank Group is a unique global partnership: five institutions working for sustainable solutions that reduce poverty and build shared prosperity in developing countries. They are often still in the process of applying for it. The first denial can take up to six months and the first appeal takes around 500 days. During that time the physically disabled with nowhere to live are both unable to work and not getting any income. Also, to get Disability, applicants must be available to be contacted and able to make it to appointments, sometimes hundreds of miles away. Sometimes those aren’t even possible for homeless people. Being without an address might cause them to experience a delay too great in mail delivery making them disqualified to receive assistance for missing an appointment. Food assistance is often pretty much all they can get. That covers some of why the physically disabled homeless are out on the streets.

During the time that my children attended a Waldorf School I was amazed at the positive influence it had on our family. Although they attend school during the day, they carry home with them a peaceful yet enthusiastic sense of the world and this is engaging and contagious. I feel that all families could benefit from this educational method, even without having a child attend a Waldorf School, so I have made a list of suggestions. Gibbs (2004) maintained that black males have been stereotyped and often described …by one or more of the five Ds: dumb, deprived, dangerous, deviant and disturbed” And even though these words …are seldom spoken or written, they reflect mainstream cultural values and are often reflected in educational policy and practice”. He further argues that black men have been miseducated, mishandled, mislabeled and mistreated.
Thank you for your comment! It’s true, college is so expensive, and tuition keeps on rising! I was lucky that I was able to get grants and scholarships to pay my way through. I also transferred from community college to a University which saved a lot of money as well. I agree, we really do need to look at what other … Read more
High School education is perfect in so many areas that in order to truly comprehend its greatness, one must understand each of the aspects that make it so fantastic. From the grading system to teacher salary and student eagerness to learn, there are a wide range of qualities that make the high school education system the well-oiled-machine that it is. No, Melissa, you are on target. Keep the discussion going. Differences of opinion are welcomed, I have no quarrel with that whatsover. Proceed and have a Blessed Night. We all learn from each other. I do not know everything, there is ALWAYS room for learning and growth.
An excellent article. This is an argument in which I frequently engage, that a degree does not make one educated, and a lack of one does not make one ignorant. Yet we are saturated with media that proclaims otherwise, and the trend of indoctrination prevails.
Based on statistics, children who are home schooled score higher on aptitude tests than their public school counterparts by a considerable margin. However, results vary depending on how involved and dedicated the parents are in regard to self-educating their children. Additionally, many people argue that children who are … Read more
I think blaming teachers is extremely unfair. They are part of a bureaucracy with no real control over what to teach and how to teach. Teachers don’t control curricula, standards or testing. They have to make do with whatever materials, worksheets and curricula they are given, even if they believe that they are ineffective. They have to prepare students for tests that often don’t effectively test student ability. The belief that teachers are responsible for educational failure has lead to ideas like merit pay and compensation based on student performance. This is a really good article and I agree with Robwrite. I also want to add that we are all intelligent in our own way. This is why I do not agree with our current system of education. While one student might excel in math another might be better suited to the arts or maybe even building things such as an auto mechanic does. Why does our current educational system not encourage students to learn what they have an interest or an affinity to? Also, I would like to point out that the system fails students because they do not prepare them for the real world. Kids do not know … Read more

In formal education, a curriculum is the set of courses and their content offered at a school or university As an idea, curriculum stems from the Latin word for race course , referring to the course of deeds and experiences through which children grow to become mature adults A curriculum is prescriptive and is based on a more general syllabus which merely specifies what topics must be understood and to what level to achieve a particular grade or standard.
However, if the person you are modeling yourself after is motivated by greed, you do not need to follow in their footsteps entirely. You can pick and choose which characteristics to emulate. You can emulate their ambition, but not their greed. You can incorporate their strategies without incorporating their ethics.
As a Montessori teacher, I’ve never really taken the time to find out more about Waldorf but this article has piqued my interest. There are definitely some great points here that any parent or educator should take into account when … Read more
Education serves as a driver for development and the elimination of extreme poverty. Education is transformational for individuals and societies-it creates pathways to better health, economic growth, a sustainable environment, and peaceful, democratic societies. A person’s earnings increase by 10 percent with each year of school they complete. Women with higher levels of education have healthier children. And increasing the average level of higher education in a country by just one year can add half a percentage point of growth to GDP. If you’re a secular or nonchristian homeschooler, it’s important to note that the Thomas Jefferson method as outlined by De Mille is heavily Christian. This definitely has some influence on the great books list provided by De Mille. If you’re a secular homeschooler, it is possible to read De Mille’s book and implement his ideas but you may want to develop your own great books list.
I was fortunate enough to have a teacher (that I adored and always tried to emulate) who believed and applied Socrates’ method of teaching and often said children are fresh water springs and the adults need to free the leaves that obstruct the path and help them become the rivers they are … Read more

Values like discipline, timliness and submission to authority, that we so necessary in a factory worker, are not that important to the self-employed, the freelancer or the compay staffer working from home, who form an increasing majority in all modern societies.

Speaking of philosophy, it’s important to note that these ancient traditions stem from some of the greatest minds we have encountered in the reasoning world. Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle are legends for a reason: they built a very solid framework for processing information, which has stood the test of thousands of years of human experience. Even much of American philosophy, from Democracy to the Free Market ideology, are all based off these men’s teachings. A bulletin board works well for a jeopardy board. One way to set up the game is as follows. I won’t counter #4, but would like to mention for those students who have a serious hobby or interest, they have more time to pursue it. For me, it was writing fiction. For my older brother, it was computers and robots.
