New skills and knowledge can spark a lifetime of change. Every day, EDC’s programs in education, health, and economic development deliver life-changing opportunities to those who need them most. A bulletin board works well for a jeopardy board. One way to set up the game is as follows. I won’t counter #4, but would like to mention for those students who have a serious hobby or interest, they have more time to pursue it. For me, it was writing fiction. For my older brother, it was computers and robots.
Again, taking the case of India, the education system is geared to making an engineer or a doctor or an MBA of every student. The pressure on students is so much that many commit suicide, unable to cope up. Scribenet – thanks for the warm and kind words. Studies have shown that people with similar educatonal and socioeconomic backgrounds have a commonality regarding dating and marriage. They tend to like and appreciate the same things. This reasoning explains why college educated, professional women are better off dating men from a similar background and/or better. It is totally unwise for a college educated, professional woman to date a blue collar man and/or a man who does not have the same level of education that she has. According to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), some professionals in the field of deafness believe that if a child learns to sign, the child will be inhibited from learning vocal and written language. The NTID says that there is no published evidence that learning sign impedes the acquisition of spoken and written language.
read through some of the comments. in my experience I’ve had no problem getting work but I’ve always had valid documents and never told anyone my situation. as long as you’re capable of accomplishing the tasks of the job then i don’t believe anyone needs to know.

With the internet, universal access to education is possible, but its potential is hindered by increasingly restrictive copyright laws and incompatible technologies. The Open Education program at Creative Commons works to minimize these barriers, supporting the CC mission through education, advocacy and outreach on using the right licenses and open policies to maximize the benefits of open educational resources (OER) and the return on investment in publicly funded education resources. Our work cuts across all levels of education (primary – secondary – tertiary) and sectors of industry (non-profit – corporate – government). The subject involves other areas of study, including humanities, natural sciences, and the social sciences. The separation of the education department into two has made the situation worse, because accountability is now further diluted. A great article reminding us all what’s really important when bringing up children. I especially agree with limiting screen time and encouraging physical activity.
Malala’s spirit is one that makes me hopeful. May she continue to lead the way as few dare to do. Thank you for honoring her with this beautiful feature. It has reminded me of why I chose teaching in the first place. What will be my part in ensuring girls … Read more
During the time that my children attended a Waldorf School I was amazed at the positive influence it had on our family. Although they attend school during the day, they carry home with them a peaceful yet enthusiastic sense of the world and this is engaging and contagious. I feel that all families could benefit from this educational method, even without having a child attend a Waldorf School, so I have made a list of suggestions. Turns out, we’re not alone. In recent years demand for language immersion programs in this country has increased dramatically. Looking specifically at Mandarin, we learn that the first immersion school in the U.S. opened in San Francisco in 1981, but it wasn’t for another 10 years that the second program appeared (just across the bay, in Emeryville, Calif.). After that, a few more schools opened up here and there, but it wasn’t until 2007 that the frenzy began. As of 2013, there were 147 Mandarin immersion programs across the country.
This flouts every principle of good education, but yet there is wide-spread support from industries for such English education, with many industry barons either opening English schools themselves or funding such schools. Few industrialists … Read more
This is a very good question! In my life experience so far, it appears that absentee parents and uneducated parents are a major reason that children don’t value education. This is not always true but very common. Children from these families are more likely to be in the workforce if not parents themselves by the time their peers have finished a Bachelor’s degree. Clearly, these are characteristics that can be learned in formal education but do need to be developed in such a process. A persons ambition and desire to succeed has little to do with education but rather their character and personality. There are a few parent and teacher resources, but most pertain to the site itself. Overall this website is simple, but it is free and offers so many games your toddler will be bound to find one that they love.
Tim, you sound like an amazing father and your kids are lucky to have you. Because of our country’s quest for academic rigor at younger ages, elementary schools (and even preschools) feel pressured to teach in ways that are not developmentally appropriate. You are so right that children learn in different ways and different rates. A one-size-fits-all … Read more
