I’ve been both a public school teacher as well as a homeschooling mom. I have to admit, at this point, I’ve homeschooled longer than I’ve taught in public school. I love them both though! On this page, I’ll share with you some of my experiences and views on education, along with some of my favorite quotes on education. Perhaps the most important piece of information on this page is that kids learn best when learning is combined with movement. I am an elementary teacher. There are some children that absolutely would benefit from not being in the classroom. Ideally, a parent should choose for each child if they would benefit from public, private, or home school education. Not all children are the same. I have watched children be destroyed in the classroom situation.
Intelligence and education may not be synonymous; however, the more intelligent a person is, there is a more likelihood that he/she has attended college and/or postgraduate school. People of lower intelligence usually do not pursue higher education. This explains why those who possess college and/or postgraduate education possess higher IQs than those with high school educations. Just the facts, just the facts.
This is a wonderful and well written lens on a controversial issue. Since I am single parenting the thought of home-schooling my twins seems overwhelming. I do know of some home-schooling Moms that really love it and their children are thriving. I enjoyed reading your perspective.
This article is very apropos if you live in the US where there are so many opportunities available for anyone who is willing to do the hard work to succeed. It doesn’t apply to most 3rd workd countries though due to the very limited opportunities available in those countries. Given the same criteria, with everything being equal, a person in the US will be at least several times richer that a person in another country, just on their salary alone. If you travel around the globe, you’ll discover that the US is one of the cheapest countries in which to reside, with one of the highest salaries.
You have to have very strong mettle to do what Malala Yousafzai did – she was threatened with violence by the Taliban if she did not obey their order to stay indoors and give up her education. Nonetheless she did what she felt was right, and defied them. And they retaliated by trying to kill her. Fortunately they were unsuccessful, although she was shot and severely injured, along with another child sitting next to her.
The CIA World Factbook is great. I know a lot of kids now use Wikipedia, even though they should really be looking at all the footnotes for references. At one time grandparents tried to fill in the gap. After several generations, it seems the grandparents are just as bad as the parent. Thanks Dashing!
