These suggestions regarding education is in favor of our current Outcomes Base Education model, which proved to be not successful. Syllabuses have to be reviewed and improved. It is happening at the moment, I know. We are waiting in anticipation to the improved model, though we lost many possible leaders during the past ten years, since OBE was implemented.

You can set up an obstacle course so easily by using household objects and toys. The other day my son and I were running round tables, crawling across old pieces of carpet, jumping on and over cushions and kicking footballs to the wall, then running … Read more
With the internet, universal access to education is possible, but its potential is hindered by increasingly restrictive copyright laws and incompatible technologies. The Open Education program at Creative Commons works to minimize these barriers, supporting the CC mission through education, advocacy and outreach on using the right licenses and open policies to maximize the benefits of open educational resources (OER) and the return on investment in publicly funded education resources. Our work cuts across all levels of education (primary – secondary – tertiary) and sectors of industry (non-profit – corporate – government). Thank you for your input, Kirstin. Education, on the other hand, opens the mind, encourages a search for truth and develops a mind that can engage critically with many different ideas. While this method may not be possible or desirable for most homeschooling parents there are aspects of it that parents can definitely implement. A focus on the classics and discussions can be hugely beneficial to a child’s education and can easily be used alongside a more traditional curriculum.

Thank you, Judi Bee. I know of several teachers who decided to take the home-ed route after becoming disillusioned with the system. Yes, the National Curriculum in the UK is far from ideal. One of the things with home-ed is that the child is able to focus on one topic, let’s say pre-history or script-writing or music and delve into it as deeply as they wish. They can leave that subject all together or return to it at a later time.

If they aren’t dating they are still observing others who are. They are able to view good examples as well as bad examples, and real world parenting can happen. For instance, a high school girl is able to see there is a large pool of the opposite sex, and can begin to see what traits good guys share, and what traits bad guys lack – with some guidance from her parents. But, what a traditional student lives with everyday is only abstract to a homeschooled student. Only having a description of what makes a guy a good dating choice might make it hard for a homeschooled girl to know it when she encounters it in her youth group, job or … Read more
Yes, actually. My twin nephews went to a Waldorf school for a few years. There are pro and cons. I have a lot going on, so maybe you could ask specific questions. Firstly there is the issue of very under-qualified teachers doing their best to cope with a curriculum for which they have had inadequate preparation and for which the resources are also inadequate. All the news about long-term unemployed young people, who are burdened with more than $90,000 of college debt is discouraging some young people from attending college.
Bromine is too reactive to exist as an element in nature. It’s found in compounds instead. The element can be produced in the lab. Bringing education leaders together from across the aisle and across states, our gatherings provide opportunities to interact, learn and collaborate.
Special education has a jargon all its own. Even among educators, the terminologies are unique. Often, many of the terms are actually acronyms. To answer the very first question…that began this thread. H_ll to the No. When do we have time to be innocent…we have our whole life to be boring adults. We should protect our innocent ones as long as possible…say at least until…Junior High! Then I would say H_ll yes…they need a good foundation in sex education to help give them proper info and help to safeguard their future. Because from that point on they will have working knowledge…and can make some proper decisions based on that information. And hopefully, the parents will have aided in their own strong beliefs and backings for their family to the child. I chose to home school for many reasons, but the main secular reason is because I live in rural west Virginia. The schools suck and the teachers are of equal quality to their pay scale. While teachers do contribute to the invigorating knowledgeable atmosphere in the classrooms, the students are the ones that really make it happen. In all of the classes I have been in or visited, every student is always focused intently on the teacher, absorbing all of the knowledge being taught with a passion that is truly astounding. I constantly am challenging myself to find a student that does not give the teacher his or her undivided attention but to this day; I have yet to find even one student with his or her head … Read more
The Greeks created the world’s first democracy. Athens first started out with a monarchy and then advanced to an oligarchy until it finally reached a democracy. The democratic government consisted of 6,000 assembly members, all of whom were adult male citizens. The assembly voted on issues throughout Athens. In order for a law to pass, the number of votes needed to be a majority. But in order to banish or exile someone, all 6,000 votes were needed. I would not have put the above statement into this hub because it is simply not true. Education is about liberation and not indoctrination but you can only enhance on freedom because freedom is an impossibility. Nothing is free and anybody who thinks carefully about freedom will know they need certain things in their life to even have a life so can never truly be free.

Although one of my professors in graduate school had mentioned that exercise increases learning and improves brain function, I didn’t really believe it until I experienced it. When my children were young, I discovered that they learned better if they were being active. Instead of sitting on a sofa going over the multiplication tables, for example, it was more productive to walk down the street bouncing a ball back and forth between us as we studied math facts. I’d call out a fact while bouncing the ball to my child, and he’d respond with the answer while bouncing the ball back to me. It was fun, it got us outside for a little sunshine, we improved our brain function and learning with the exercise, and we studied the math facts at the same time!

New skills and knowledge can spark a lifetime of change. Every day, EDC’s programs in education, health, and economic development deliver life-changing opportunities to those who need them most. Population education is different from traditional subjects like English Language, Mathematics, etc which aim to present a body of factual information and methodologies. The aim of population education is to enable students to explore personal values, attitudes, and beliefs as well as to develop the abilities to freely choose a rational course of action. Population education therefore requires emphasizing analysis, starting from collective inquiry and leading to appraisal of issues or problems that affect the learners and their social environments.
