The goal of r/Education is to provide a community in which educational stakeholders can participate in meaningful, reflective, and thought-provoking discourse about educational policy, research, technology, and politics. We have a selection of toys at home that my son loves to play with. He has his favorites that he loves (they include cars as he is currently car crazy) but we have various other toys too. Our commitment to the ETS mission is reflected in our efforts to improve teaching and learning, expand opportunities for learners and communities, inform education and policy, and advance the field of educational measurement.
Outstanding hub! Charlotte Mason also advocated using real books instead of textbooks. Neutral policy: This aims neither at reducing nor increasing the growth of population. Also, I have a small a treat ready (usually a bit of chocolate) a bit of a bribe! The Alpha Smart has given my son a new lease of life, as writing is much, much easier for him when he types.

Psychology is the study of people’s behavior, performance, and mental operations. It also refers to the application of the knowledge, which can be used to understand events, treat mental health issues, and improve education, employment, and relationships. The subject lies at the intersection of applied, educational, and theoretical science. What an incredible human being you are. Thank you for creating this page. Your love for people, after all you have been through is testimony to your strength, and humanity. I love you. Another outstanding and challenging lens. Thought provoking – and it has stayed with me. Thank you.
Attending public school has become an increasingly difficult problem for young people because it is difficult to learn and function when so many people are demanding that their needs be met. Hi Tony, you make perfect sense from the very first phrase itself. I am completely overwhelmed by your views and I am certain I would never have been able to express my views on the same topic as clearly as you have, by even ten percent.
Without those funds the public schools have less money available to hire employees, maintain their facilities and educate students. Wells, S.E. (1990). At-Risk Youth: Identification, … Read more
De Mille suggests that there are three types of schooling: public school, professional education and leadership education. The Thomas Jefferson method claims to be a system that trains people for leadership roles. Many children will benefit from special educational services to a great extent. Many children benefit so much that they no longer require services or extra support. These children are declassified and no longer require an IEP (the declassification process requires objective testing to demonstrate that the child no longer requires extra help to obtain equal access).
Conversely, in the poorer nations and among the poor in the United States and in first world nations, larger families are the norm. People who have large families tend to be less educated, intelligent, and affluent. They contend that children are a preordained part of life which cannot be stopped. They see no point in planning for their children. They oftentimes cannot and/or refuse to see the ramifications for their actions. They are of the school of what happens, happens as far as having children are concerned.

Education is one the important thing that people should have in their life. But unfortunately not all the people can finish their education while there are attend the schools or college. But in this time most of the people with a good education are very lucky in their life because they can have a better life than others. Here is some reason why we should continue for education. I think it’s a matter of expectations. Having taken online courses and traditional courses personally, and having interacted with students and with employees with both types, there is a difference. So education gained through attending schools and colleges is not necessarily the best education or even the right education.

On the whole, the government has the responsibility of safeguarding the right of its children to sound education. And while we congratulation the Federal government for jointly hosting E.9 Countries Conference last June 21st -24th with UNESCO to seek solution to their illiteracy plight and for recently dishing out a huge amount for academic development of our higher educational institutions, I opt that adequate supervision of their proper implementation should be checked and the media has crucial role here.
You can opt out of it, but no one has. The children just think it’s funny…last week they learned about erections, etc, which I’m sure I did not know about at age 9. However, children these days are not the same as 30 years ago – my son has ‘learned’ an awful lot of … Read more
With the internet, universal access to education is possible, but its potential is hindered by increasingly restrictive copyright laws and incompatible technologies. The Open Education program at Creative Commons works to minimize these barriers, supporting the CC mission through education, advocacy and outreach on using the right licenses and open policies to maximize the benefits of open educational resources (OER) and the return on investment in publicly funded education resources. Our work cuts across all levels of education (primary – secondary – tertiary) and sectors of industry (non-profit – corporate – government). The separation of the education department into two has made the situation worse, because accountability is now further diluted. A great article reminding us all what’s really important when bringing up children. I especially agree with limiting screen time and encouraging physical activity.

Fierce advocates for the high academic achievement of all students — particularly those of color or living in poverty. Not agreeing but stating fact. Birth control and family planning is a foreign concept to the poor person. Planning of any kind is foreign to the psychology and prospectus of the poor person who believes in instant gratification and consequences be damned. That attitude explains the main reasons they are poor. They live for the now and refuse to consider the future. That is the culture of poverty syndrome. Wealthier classes believe in the future and judiciously plan for it. They practice delayed gratification, especially if they know that such delays would make their future better.
Politicization of census operations, leading to inflation of figures and falsification of information. Earlier physical maturation has more to do with good nutrition than anything else. But I am not sure what self defense has to do with telling kids how babies are made.

Wall art for kid’s rooms can do more than just decorate – it can educate. I find that posters are usually reasonable in price and easily interchangeable. As your baby grows to toddler and, eventually, enters school, your child can learn by being surrounded with updated and topical posters. From the basics of the alphabet, numbers, shapes, colors, cars, farm and wild animals , as well as the ever-popular dinosaurs to the elements of science, chemistry and even guitar chords. Posters are educational art tools that are easily referenced as as teaching aids. I think you’re right, there are some people who are so gung-ho, they miss the bad spots. Like the fact that it’s really hard to be a mom AND a teacher and distinguish between the two and separate them. But for us, homeschooling is the answer and I plan to use my experiences to improve my kids’ schooling.

Over the past twenty-five years, the educational advancement made by women has been significant. The gaps for educational attainment between the genders have all but disappeared for the young women being educated today. While girls still lag somewhat behind boys on mathematical and science achievement, girls in high school average higher grades and reach higher achievement levels in reading and writing compared to same age boys. The discrepancies in achievement by subject persist into adulthood. It has been shown that women between the ages of 16 and 65 achieved higher scores on comprehension and interpretation of prose that similar age men. There were also less women (40 percent) scoring at a low level in these areas compared to men (44 percent). Consistent with finding from earlier ages, women do not score as well as men in number related subjects such as mathematics (Sax, 2008). Games and creative activities can be fun ways to learn about chemical elements and the periodic table. A course can’t be run entirely on games, however. Students need variety in the type of activities that they do in order to maintain their interest in a subject. In addition, a game may be effective for attaining some … Read more
