My oldest son is four years old and my daughter is 2 ½. They both really like to watch TV. I try to limit the amount of TV they watch, but I’ll admit that sometimes I’m thankful for the 30 minutes of peace I can get from popping a DVD into the player. Since my kids watch at least 30 minutes of TV a day, I make sure the content is educational. The DVDs listed below are some of my top choices as a parent. So while I’m cooking dinner, making a grocery list, or just needing a few minutes to myself, these are some of the DVDs my children really enjoy. Most of them can be checked out for free at your local library. I read an article about math teaching a few years back and one teacher’s comment really stood out. The teacher said that the way he’s required to teach math, it’s almost impossible for students to learn. A second grade teacher called into a radio show I was listening to and said that because of state standards she wasn’t able to spend enough time introducing fractions. As a result, she said many students went into third … Read more
Education is like food and shelter. It is considered basic to one’s life. While food is for health and shelter for the body, education is for the mind. Saving money will always look good for a district’s financial officer. Although special education will receive financial support from state and national funding, they still rely heavily on local expenditures by the district. What a wonderful lens to visit and find resources for children. Congratulations on LOTD!
I had never heard of The Waldorf Method before. I’m so glad you shared your knowledge! SAI is still a very flawed program. Its effects can be felt directly and indirectly throughout the special education universe. I ask him to tell me what he wants to write. Sometimes I write it for him in his book and other times I write on paper and he then copies it. While he is copying I spell out the words.

These suggestions regarding education is in favor of our current Outcomes Base Education model, which proved to be not successful. Syllabuses have to be reviewed and improved. It is happening at the moment, I know. We are waiting in anticipation to the improved model, though we lost many possible leaders during the past ten years, since OBE was implemented.

New evidence on the long-term effects of grade retention in third grade shows some good news among the nuance. I believe many of homeless do not want to work. So sad. Living on the streets is time consuming and hard work. Many become so adjusted to homeless it becomes a way of life. Begging bread each day is a norm. Scriptures say not to beg bread. Jesus was talking to HIS disciples. He told them He would provide. He made the way and their work was to share the good news. They lived in lack much of the time and much of the time lived in plenty. Paul lived in lack and he also experienced the finer things though the church of God. Paul learned how to be content in feast or famine. His joy was full in Jesus Christ. He knew His eternal home. It is all about Jesus for me as it should be. I am not perfect there is only one perfect. We all fall short the glory of God.
This is really interesting. I’ve always wondered what the kids perspective would be once they were all grown up after homeschooling. Socialization, after school activities, and college … Read more

Studying at university is cool because you learn academic skills. As a result, you end up with a more critical attitude, and you do not believe everything published or broadcast. And at one time or another, you’ll get to do research about a topic of personal interest.
Another great outside activity. Chalk in the backyard or on the sidewalk outside. It can be washed away when the rain comes or before then with a big bucket of water. If you have an easel, you could put it up in the kitchen and use the chalk on the board too.

Thank you Jane !!! I just want all parents to know really what is out there. I am not against any method I am for deaf kids being able to read. I am truly tired of the divisions and parents being given information on only one method. The scientific approach is not being used in deaf education.
This lens is a great eye-opener to help people understand how homelessness happens. Blessed by a SquidAngel. We cut out bits of a shark drawing and wrote questions and answers in lift the flap form. PS, as a home-schooled child, I graduated from high school early, from university early, have a few degrees, and am now a teacher!

A right to education has been recognized by some governments, including at the global level: Article 13 of the United Nations ‘ 1966 International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights recognizes a universal right to education. 2 In most regions, education is compulsory up to a certain age. This article puts little emphasis on the role of the teacher and the relationship they have with the children, which many studies have shown to be the biggest indicator for high quality early childhood education. There is some great info here but it seems this article is missing a big point.

Education, on the other hand, opens the mind, encourages a search for truth and develops a mind that can engage critically with many different ideas. While this method may not be possible or desirable for most homeschooling parents there are aspects of it that parents can definitely implement. Thank you, Judi Bee. I know of several teachers who decided to take the home-ed route after becoming disillusioned with the system. Yes, the National Curriculum in the UK is far from ideal. One of the things with home-ed is that the child is able to focus on one topic, let’s say pre-history or script-writing or music and delve into it as deeply as they wish. They can leave that subject all together or return to it at a later time.
