I asked about the spirituality because of the Waldorf belief in anthroposophy. I believe it is woven into the way the schools teach and work with the students. Very nice – always in need of some great clipart for projects and presentations.

As long as you follow the curricula and instructions and you are on time in submitting requirements, you will be fine. Part of the problem is how many districts have used it. Some school districts decided to combine it with Basic Skills or Emotional Disorder (ED) courses along with the RSP and SDC programs. The results have been disastrous academically and management-wise.

Such parents believe that the more children they have, the better although they can least afford to take care of them. Their children because they grow up in disadvantated circumstances, oftentimes become problematic to the school system and later to society. They are benignly neglected at best because their parents cannot effectively raise a large number of children. That, or they force the oldest/older children to be parents to the younger siblings. These children for the most part are left to raise and support themselves at a young age because their parents … Read more

Just a quick note to say how well-written and full of information I found this article. I do not know anyone with dyslexic children, but I did know a dyslexic adult at a job once who was an administrator, a job with numbers. He always needed someone to check his work as a second pair of eyes, nonetheless he was an excellent and highly successful administrator for a large medical practice. Bravo for working with your son and bravo for you son’s ability and determination to adapt. Great tips.
Historical agendas have predetermined what persons of color can and cannot do in America’s educational systems. In 1895 the United State Supreme Court decided, via Plessey v. Ferguson, that equal facilities could be separate for blacks and whites. Plessey v. Ferguson created the separate but equal doctrine” that was practiced … Read more
Education is like food and shelter. It is considered basic to one’s life. While food is for health and shelter for the body, education is for the mind. In reading this post, I have learned a few things about homeschooling. I am beginning homeschool with my oldest child in August. I have read some blogs that allude to the fact that we can teach whatever we want, but fail to mention that a lot of the things kids learn in school are required because the colleges require them. All lower education standards are set just so, in prep. for the bigger steps.
Family Life Education (FLE) is concerned with the study of attitudes and skills related to dating, marriage, parenthood, and health of a family (NERDC, 1993). It is designed to help people in their physical, social, emotional and moral development. Because the family is seen as the central focus of the National Population Programme, FLE is a necessary addition.

To answer the very first question…that began this thread. H_ll to the No. When do we have time to be innocent…we have our whole life to be boring adults. We should protect our innocent ones as long as possible…say at least until…Junior High! Then I would say H_ll yes…they need a good foundation in sex education to help give them proper info and help to safeguard their future. Because from that point on they will have working knowledge…and can make some proper decisions based on that information. And hopefully, the parents will have aided in their own strong beliefs and backings for their family to the child. I chose to home school for many reasons, but the main secular reason is because I live in rural west Virginia. The schools suck and the teachers are of equal quality to their pay scale. Identify the various uses to which population data are put and, therefore, develop an understanding of the importance of and a sense of responsibility towards population census enumeration and the registration of vital statistics.

While teachers do contribute to the invigorating knowledgeable atmosphere in the classrooms, the students are the ones that really make it happen. In all of the classes I have been in or visited, every student is always focused intently on the teacher, absorbing all of the knowledge being taught with a passion that is truly astounding. I constantly am challenging myself to find a student that does not give the teacher his or her undivided attention but to this day; I have yet to find even one student with his or her head … Read more
I think blaming teachers is extremely unfair. They are part of a bureaucracy with no real control over what to teach and how to teach. Teachers don’t control curricula, standards or testing. They have to make do with whatever materials, worksheets and curricula they are given, even if they believe that they are ineffective. They have to prepare students for tests that often don’t effectively test student ability. The belief that teachers are responsible for educational failure has lead to ideas like merit pay and compensation based on student performance. I’m so impressed with this hub in particular Tony, (you’ve been busy recently). I’ve long since felt that much of the education that young people get at school is simply a training (indoctrination) given in order to maintain the status quo, and that it’s sheer insolence, and an insult to democracy that the World establishment has decided to thrust young people into debt to achieve that end.

The Greeks created the world’s first democracy. Athens first started out with a monarchy and then advanced to an oligarchy until it finally reached a democracy. The democratic government consisted of 6,000 assembly members, all of whom were adult male citizens. The assembly voted on issues throughout Athens. In order for a law to pass, the number of votes needed to be a majority. But in order to banish or exile someone, all 6,000 votes were needed. I would not have put the above statement into this hub because it is simply not true. Education is about liberation and not indoctrination but you can only enhance on freedom because freedom is an impossibility. Nothing is free and anybody who thinks carefully about freedom will know they need certain things in their life to even have a life so can never truly be free.

Although one of my professors in graduate school had mentioned that exercise increases learning and improves brain function, I didn’t really believe it until I experienced it. When my children were young, I discovered that they learned better if they were being active. Instead of sitting on a sofa going over the multiplication tables, for example, it was more productive to walk down the street bouncing a ball back and forth between us as we studied math facts. I’d call out a fact while bouncing the ball to my child, and he’d respond with the answer while bouncing the ball back to me. It was fun, it got us outside for a little sunshine, we improved our brain function and learning with the exercise, and we studied the math facts at the same time!
