Is Poor Parenting The Reason Children Don’t Value Education?

We have been home schooling, or home-educating as it known in the UK, for eight years. It’s our chosen way of life. However, in the beginning we were filled with anxiety about how it was going to work for our children and us, as parents. Our son, Alexander was six when we decided to take him out of school, and the one piece of advice that was like gold to us was, ‘Don’t do school.’ In other words, don’t try to turn home into school. It can be concluded from above mentioned facts that education is not responsible for unemploymentIt is the education system and ways in which education is provided which are responsible for unemployment in Pakistan. The education system of Pakistan is not up to date and needs modifications including uniform education system throughout the country, revision of syllabus, student counselling facilities, setup of new vocational and technical institutions and training workshops for teachers. These modification certainly can reduce the rate of unemployment in Pakistan.

High School education is perfect in so many areas that in order to truly comprehend its greatness, one must understand each of the aspects that make it so fantastic. From the grading system to teacher salary and student eagerness to learn, there are a wide range of qualities that make the high school education system the well-oiled-machine that it is. Great analysis, Distant Mind. Our current educational system tends toward teaching to pass standardized tests and not true learning. We must encourage our young people to analyze facts and be creative. Simple memorization will not cut it in our time nor should it.

Additionally, I’d like to point out that I’m not saying we should completely throughout Biology, Physics or Math, but we should try to dig ourselves out of the unnecessary details and try to see and understand the big picture. Let’s put the emphasis on the really fascinating stuff like the beauty, complexity and diversity of life instead of knowing each and every chemical reaction that is part of the Krebs cycle for Biology. Let’s put the emphasis of Physics on the miseries of the universe and the mindbogglingly paradoxes of the quantum world instead of solving interchangeable … Read more

I did read your comments Deidre and I just happen to disagree not from people who write about this, but from living the experience. I only know that my son is ahead of the class with reading in a mainstreamed environment with having ASL as his first language. And you are biased if you are using dogma ideas when you are talking about someone’s culture or ideas that you disagree with. It’s not a religion but a culture which is quite obvious to most people. Special Education Reform?

I remember 20 plus years ago when I was getting my graduate degree in Special Education and a buddy of mine getting his degree in elementary education told me that his father, a school principal, said that I probably shouldn’t waste my time getting a masters in Special Education. He said that Special Education would be eventually fading out of public education. I was almost done with my masters at this point so I figured I would have to take my chances with it, besides what other choice did I have anyways at that point?

Teacher pointing to raised hands in classroom

I got a Special Education job and taught for about 10 year. There were a lot of ups and downs over those 10 years, and eventually I decided that I wanted a change so I got certified and switched over to high school history. At this point in my career I remembered what my friend had said a decade ago and wondered if I was ahead of the curve on schools no longer needing special education teachers, even though it was 10 years later. I wondered if my job was now safe in my new-found home in the

Higher Education and Society

Institutions of education, and the system of which they are a part, face a host of unprecedented challenges from forces in society that affect and are influenced by these very institutions and their communities of learners and educators. Among these forces are sweeping demographic changes, shrinking provincial budgets, revolutionary advances in information and telecommunication technologies, globalization, competition from new educational providers, market pressures to shape educational and scholarly practices toward profit-driven ends, and increasing demands and pressures for fundamental changes in public policy and public accountability relative to the role of higher education in addressing pressing issues of communities and the society at large. Anyone of these challenges would be significant on their own, but collectively they increase the complexity and difficulty for education to sustain or advance the fundamental work of serving the public good.

Through a forum on education, we can agree to: Strengthening the relationship between higher education and society will require a broad-based effort that encompasses all of education, not just individual institutions, departments and associations.

Piecemeal solutions can only go so far; strategies for change must be informed by a shared vision and a set of common objectives. A “movement” approach for change holds greater

The decision to homeschool your child is a huge, life changing decision. A parent should consider all possible advantages and disadvantages before beginning schooling from their kitchen tabletop. Because of the strong feelings on both sides of the homeschooling debate, sometimes searching parents end up only consuming information from other homeschooling parents. These resources tend to be a bit skewed as they are written by parents that feel they need to defend their choices instead of giving accurate pros and cons to homeschooling. With a busy concert schedule around the world, awards and scholarships, and even recitals for the Queen Mother, and the Queen and Prince Consort of Denmark, I’m always amazed Melanie has any time to maintain such a fantastic blog and be active on several social media sites.
