Go to Educational Initiatives for more information about the board’s work and to learn how you can be a part of the discussion. So much of multiplication is memorizing the times table. Having a chart for reference while doing homework makes it less tasking for that inevitable math homework. Checking the chart for the answers will help your child improve their grades while helping to memorize the table over time. Check your child’s classroom, they may have a reference chart for the multiplication chart as well. If not, ask the teacher if this teaching aid is allowed in the classroom. As long as they don’t bring it out during tests, it would be a valuable teaching aid.
Looks like a good set of resources, and well annotated. SquidAngel blessings from the preschool and elementary neighborhood SquidAngel. Know a student heading to college this fall? These are the key messages they’ll need for personal, social, and academic success.
That’s for the post. I am really interested in Homeschooling my child more than ever. I have never been homeschooled before so I knowing the disadvantages is really important in taking any steps. I think all of the point that you made are … Read more
Wall art for kid’s rooms can do more than just decorate – it can educate. I find that posters are usually reasonable in price and easily interchangeable. As your baby grows to toddler and, eventually, enters school, your child can learn by being surrounded with updated and topical posters. From the basics of the alphabet, numbers, shapes, colors, cars, farm and wild animals , as well as the ever-popular dinosaurs to the elements of science, chemistry and even guitar chords. Posters are educational art tools that are easily referenced as as teaching aids. I think you’re right, there are some people who are so gung-ho, they miss the bad spots. Like the fact that it’s really hard to be a mom AND a teacher and distinguish between the two and separate them. But for us, homeschooling is the answer and I plan to use my experiences to improve my kids’ schooling.
This is the favorite game in my class. I got the idea from the quizzes on Survivor where each contestant has a chalkboard, or an answer cube or something similar and Jeff Probst asks a question and they all have to hold up their answer. My class meets in … Read more
I’ve been both a public school teacher as well as a homeschooling mom. I have to admit, at this point, I’ve homeschooled longer than I’ve taught in public school. I love them both though! On this page, I’ll share with you some of my experiences and views on education, along with some of my favorite quotes on education. Perhaps the most important piece of information on this page is that kids learn best when learning is combined with movement. I am an elementary teacher. There are some children that absolutely would benefit from not being in the classroom. Ideally, a parent should choose for each child if they would benefit from public, private, or home school education. Not all children are the same. I have watched children be destroyed in the classroom situation.
Intelligence and education may not be synonymous; however, the more intelligent a person is, there is a more likelihood that he/she has attended college and/or postgraduate school. People of lower intelligence usually do not pursue higher education. This explains why those who possess college and/or postgraduate education possess higher IQs than those with high school educations. Just the facts, just the facts.

Under the 1833 Factory Act no child could work in factories under the age of nine; and the hours children could work was limited, according to their age e.g. 9 to 13 year olds could not work for more than nine hours, and 13 to 18 year olds could not work for more than 12 hours a day. I noticed on Jan. 5, I had already left you my comment, but unlike the other writers, you never acknnowledged mine. Guess you were busy. Doing homework together gave me so many opportunities to praise my son for something real. Empty praise is useless, but a good piece of homework is a great way for them to earn praise that means something.
Microsoft YouthSpark seeks to empower all young people—especially those most at-risk of being left behind—by providing access to computer science education and digital skills needed to participate in a world transformed by technology. In some ways this will complicate life for parents who have become used to having schools become their babysitters, but those days are fast disappearing.

My 13 year old says that his friends are always asking him how come he knows so much. He replies that if he has a question, or hears something on TV, or reads a reference to something he doesn’t know about, he simply goes online and looks it up. This is something we have encouraged since the beginning. It has become a natural habit for him.
This has not been an accident. The truth is that the less educated a population is, the easier it is to manipulate them. I have a friend who is always giving me her son’s toys that he … Read more
This is a very good question! In my life experience so far, it appears that absentee parents and uneducated parents are a major reason that children don’t value education. This is not always true but very common. Children from these families are more likely to be in the workforce if not parents themselves by the time their peers have finished a Bachelor’s degree. Clearly, these are characteristics that can be learned in formal education but do need to be developed in such a process. A persons ambition and desire to succeed has little to do with education but rather their character and personality. There are a few parent and teacher resources, but most pertain to the site itself. Overall this website is simple, but it is free and offers so many games your toddler will be bound to find one that they love.
Tim, you sound like an amazing father and your kids are lucky to have you. Because of our country’s quest for academic rigor at younger ages, elementary schools (and even preschools) feel pressured to teach in ways that are not developmentally appropriate. You are so right that children learn in different ways and different rates. A one-size-fits-all … Read more
This writer engaged in extensive research examining the lives of black males and the educational system in America for a dissertation proposal. The findings of the research are detailed in the following paragraphs. I have to admit that I normally scan through lenses with heavy content…but your writing style sucked me in from the first line to the last. VERY nicely done. I feel like your lens taught me a few things I hadn’t considered before, and in my opinion, this is what makes a great lensmaster. Awesome, awesome!
There is no adequate support for inclusive education from the concerned stakeholders. In most of developing countries, most of the parents of the disabled learners are cautious about placing their children in an inclusion program because of fears that the children will be ridiculed by other children, or be unable to develop regular life skills in an academic classroom. This is mainly attributed to poor policy implementation. Many governments in the developing countries have not been able to effectively implement inclusive education policy framework. In some countries like Kenya, the education policy is an exclusively one-sided policy and fails to meet the needs of the challenged learners in inclusive education arrangement. … Read more
Over the past twenty-five years, the educational advancement made by women has been significant. The gaps for educational attainment between the genders have all but disappeared for the young women being educated today. While girls still lag somewhat behind boys on mathematical and science achievement, girls in high school average higher grades and reach higher achievement levels in reading and writing compared to same age boys. The discrepancies in achievement by subject persist into adulthood. It has been shown that women between the ages of 16 and 65 achieved higher scores on comprehension and interpretation of prose that similar age men. There were also less women (40 percent) scoring at a low level in these areas compared to men (44 percent). Consistent with finding from earlier ages, women do not score as well as men in number related subjects such as mathematics (Sax, 2008). Games and creative activities can be fun ways to learn about chemical elements and the periodic table. A course can’t be run entirely on games, however. Students need variety in the type of activities that they do in order to maintain their interest in a subject. In addition, a game may be effective for attaining some … Read more
These free reading apps for kids make it a joy to get your children engaged in reading. I see how their captivating illustrations, graphics, and games draw beginning readers into a story. Children interact with letters, words, and illustrations in ways that aren’t possible with print on paper. Some of the apps include read-along stories, which are a fantastic tool to help kids develop fluency. As you can see, our educational system in the US is now sitting on the cusp of major changes that will seriously effect learning environments, cause job loss and force parents into situations that will require them to spend more money and/or time to see to it that their children become educated.
So let’s start by facing a truth that we are all aware of on some level, but usually try no to face – our educational system is archaic. It emerged in the time of the Industrial Revolution and it is designed to cater to that time of history and not current social reality. Education is still trying to grind children down to the size that would fit the needs of the industrial revolution. We can see this in the way we assign importance … Read more
